Web Updates (Post #104) 9/15/2008

I updated the OkieRover.com site this weekend. I cleaned up some bad links. Mostly pages I didn’t have pages for. I will be writing some more in the coming weeks and will update accordingly.

There are some minor things on the Discovery that are now starting to annoy me. The rear door’s latch does not unlock when the doors unlock. Coincidentally it doesn’t lock when the doors are lock either. This needs to be fixed.

The passenger side window is now starting to derail when you roll it down. I had the regulator replaced under warranty before the 50,000 mile mark. It’s strange to me that it should already be failing now just after the 87,000 mile mark. I’m not sure how I’ll fix it. I’m going to study the Rave CD and see if it is something I can fix without replacing the entire regulator.

Also the secondary air unit is throwing codes about every other day now. That’s pretty annoying. I wish there was a way to take that system out entirely. You remember the trouble I had changing the plug wires due to the plumbing for that system. It hasn’t been the same since. I’m sure everything is plugged back in. But just in case I’m going to take a look at it and make sure.

Thanks for reading and Happy Rovering.

Kick Ass Buttons.
Well, another good friend of mine and fellow Devil Dog helped me out with a condensed rendering of the menu pictures. Making them faster to load due to their smaller size.
Thanks a ton Bobby.

Kick Ass Buttons.
My good friend in Grand Junction made me some new buttons for the header page.
I think they are totally awesome. They look great and are better than any button I’ve ever had on any of my sites. Thanks Josh, I owe you big time.

I don’t know when it happened but I must have deleted my stat checking code. Ooops. So I put it back.

Restoring the Rangie.
I finished the brake caliper rebuild. I have the pictures on the camera but I don’t have the write up done yet. Maybe if I get some time this week I’ll put my thoughts on that down.

I installed the calipers on the left side of the Rangie and hooked up the lines. I had to get some new cotter pins for the reinstall. I teased the clerk at Ace Hardware, “What, no stainless?”

And she responded, “Yeah, we got stainless.”

I was a bit surprised so I bought them. So how anal do you have to get to put stainless steel cotter pins on the tie rod ends? I think I have a disease.

I’m trying to decide which project gets my attention next. The weather this week is great but the timing couldn’t be worse. We have a funeral tomorrow and family in town all week. Also RovErica’s softball team meeting is tonight. And Saturday is out as I have been asked to be in a movie production. Something to do with the Civil War. More on that later. So not only do I not have time to do my taxes, I don’t have time to work on my restoration.
Gaah!

Well there’s always next week I guess.

I had no idea how many pages I would need after I got this redesign started. There are several pages waiting for me to start and I will get to them in good time. I need to figure out the button graphics. I wish I had a couple ounces of graphics talent. I may sick RovErica on the task. She is very artistically inclined.

Restoring the Rangie. I will start ordering parts as soon as Christmas is done. I’m going to start with the brakes so I can get her back on the road. The painting will need to be done in North Oklahoma City at my buddy’s paint booth. I’ve noticed a nasty contrast between the front doors and the back half. The front is shiney and the back is badly oxidized. I’m not sure if I’ll paint the whole truck at this point or just the rusty bits.

I’m trying to decide which Rover to at the modifications to. The 93 Rangie is the obvious choice. But as it will be RovErica’s daily driver I can’t very well take it for the weekend. But as the Disco is MY daily driver I don’t want to add too many heavy mods. I need to build a bumper for the Disco after the wreck. But I’m sure with a little creativity I could do that in the shop. I saw how
Disco Mike set his up. He was kind enough to forward me some pics of his bumper build. Layed out like he did it I think I could do that for sure. I’ll just need to wander down to the steel yard and pick up some metal.

I “pimped” the my MySpace page this week. I find the hidden tricks difficult to understand. But copying off some of the other pages I’m able to find stuff I like. And using the copy and paste feature I can customize it to fit my needs. Check it out at http://www.myspace.com/okierover
I think it looks good. I wonder how much longer this MySpace craze will last?

I’m working on the new webpage design again today. I will be copying the updated pages to the site later this week.

Bare with me if you see something missing or a bad link. Or worse….a link to a page I haven’t converted.

I think it looks pretty good. Your comments are appreciated.
