SCARR – Day One (Post #477) 4/3/2014

The South Central Area Rover Rally was finally upon us. Leading in to it, I have had the worst two weeks professionally in my career. My wife has been my rock through it all and wanted me to get away for a trip. Mr. Fisher’s life recently has not been a cake walk either and Mrs. Fisher was also happy to see him out of the house doing something fun.

I’m going to stop here and thank both of them. You two are the best wives any two guys could possibly have. Your support to us is never-ending and we are very appreciative. Thank you.

wp-1395932045690Thursday started cold and blustery in Norman. Mr. Fisher and I organized our kit and got it loaded on to the Range Rover. It seemed like a lot of kit for a three-day event but we wanted to be comfortable. Even with all the kit we managed to forget several items: Continue reading “SCARR – Day One (Post #477) 4/3/2014”

S.C.A.R.R! (Post #455) 2/26/2014

I registered this morning for the yearly South Central Area Rover Rally, aka SCARR. I’ve been meaning to attend this event for the last three years. But as things are, something always comes up, vehicle problems, family problems, failing to plan. What’s that old saying?

Well that stings a bit, but it’s accurate. So this year I sorted out the weekend, announced I was going, got funding to go, invited a friend to go with me, in short, I made plans to go.  Continue reading “S.C.A.R.R! (Post #455) 2/26/2014”

Raquel Welch in a Land Rover (Post #318) 1/25/2013

Monday while everyone else was watching Beyoncé lipsync our National Anthem I was applying the embroidery to my Cherokee bandoleer bag and looking for something to watch on the boob tube. (Strange…the boob tube is no longer shaped like a boob.)

I was haunting the Encore channels because they usually have old movies I’ve never seen. Monday was a home run of epic per portions. I was surfing the channels and saw Raquel Welch was starring in a movie that was described as “a bikini clad skydiver…” I don’t remember the rest, they had me at bikini.

Fathom” (1967). So I watched the truly too terrible to be bad movie. Think about how bad Patrick Swayze’s “Road House” (1989) is and how you still watch it every time its on. This movie was totally predictable and pretty bad over all. But it had Raquel Welch, who I would watch clip her toe nails. How on earth could this get any better? Right in the first few scenes Fathom (Raquel Welch) gets a ride from a friendly British gent and what does he drive? Yep, a Land Rover.

I snapped a shot of the screen because I felt it was my duty to all Land Rover Mankind. It wasn’t in HD so it is fairly low quality. It is likely that I will need to buy this movie on DVD so I can get a better screen capture and perhaps a video of the magic happening.

So we now have two of the most beautiful women in the 20th century riding around in a Land Rovers. I’m sure somewhere there must be a website that has all the beautiful people pictured with their Land Rovers. BINGO (Celebrity Cars Blog.com).

We have run Marilyn Monroe and the epic pic of her stepping out of a Land Rover (OkieRover 2008). It is perennially in the top ten with the most posts on my blog. Now we have Raquel Welch and her appearance with a Land Rover. We’ll see how it tracks.

Thanks for reading and Happy Rovering.

Evoque? I’m not even sure how to pronounce that (Post #185) 7/7/2010

Evoque = evoke. At least that’s how I’m going to pronounce it when asked.

The former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham has been appointed creative design executive at Range Rover.

Land Rover and Range Rover design director Gerry McGovern said of his newest colleague: “She knows a lot about fashion and a lot about trends, a lot about luxury products.

“She has her own fashion business that’s been going for three years and has gained critical acclaim.”

He added: “I believe this appointment adds a new dimension to my design team as we continue to design products to appeal to a wider audience.”

I can’t get past the hard to pronounce name and the fact this Range Rover is just for the street. I’m guessing that people who buy these street only Range Rovers think about the brand entirely differently than I do.
The first thing that comes to mind when I think of fashion is ugly impractical haute couture outfits most normal people would not be caught dead in. And when I think of Land Rover, I think of the timeless design of their vehicles. I not sure I can wrap my head around the merger.
I keep seeing the haute couture fashion shows where they are announcing their Spring (pick a year) designs and it’s early winter of the previous year. And by the time Spring rolls around the clothes they were showing you 3 months ago are already out of “fashion”. I just don’t see designing cars with that same concept. Am I the only one that doesn’t see the link? Am I the only one that just doesn’t get it?
I’m happy for Victoria and I am a fan of the Beckhams. I am happy for Land Rover and am a obvious fan of Range Rovers. Some of the talking points of the announcement should not be over looked. Land Rover is moving in a more “green” direction, and that can’t be bad. Fuel efficiency and toxic waste should be improved across the board and if this helps them move the company in that direction I’m all for it.
So if nothing else enjoy the pictures of Victoria and the video of the unveiling.
