Cup Holders Revisited (Post #535) 4/11/2015

Today my goal was to fixed my daughter’s zero-turn mower. It tossed a belt and the blades are toast. It started raining and the Mrs. OkieRover got a text that the kids were taking the grandchildren to the Wichita Wildlife Refuge.

That eliminated 90% of the reasons for her to go. So plan B was initiated. Garage projects. Project one was to turn a couple of new cup holders.

If you read the Original Post some 13 years ago, you know the story about how the cup holders came to life.
I made a special trip to the Woodcraft store on the north side of OKC. I’d regale you with the extremely disappointing trip to another wood store on Agnew in Stockyards City but it is not worth the time. At Woodcrafters I felt welcome and they had products you could actually buy. I bought a couple of blocks of Bolbo or something like that. They were marked way down.

I got them lathed to resemble cups. They don’t exactly match but I’m an amateur wood-turner. I like turning wood and wish I had nicer tools.

The mount is pretty simple. Using the screw holes that hold the seat switches on I had a few custom brackets made.

You attach the flat octagon shaped piece to your newly made cups.

I coated them with a little poly sealant. Just enough to annoy the inevitable condensation off my cold beer drinks. Just kidding, I don’t drink and drive any longer.

With a little effort your end result will look like this, perhaps better.

Spiffy if I do say so myself. In any event Mr. Fisher and Mrs. OkieRover can now rest a beverage while we traverse the roadways of Oklahoma.

Thanks for reading and Happy Rovering.
